I started this post in December of 2019, At that time I was getting perspective on my career. Taking stock and assessing where I have been and perhaps where I may be going.
The Beginning:
As we start our careers we know little of the real business of architecture and design.
First we apprentice to learn how to design and build space that emotionally inspires the people that use it. The secret is to keep the user, patron, guest at the center of our design focus. We think about how space affects us emotionally. How placemaking can send a message or if it should. We often consider this time a period where Individual Creative Endeavors are key. Chipping away at the big block of ICE and see what is inside.
The Learning Years:
Then we mature we learn to manage the people around us. We understand that team results are more powerful that individual achievements. We focus on how to build teams that are effective, creative and collaborative by nature. Our focus is on refining our craft and adding skills. Selecting paths some less traveled. We often consider this time where Achieving Results Together is key. Perfecting our ART
The Sweet Spot:
The experiences we gain prepare us for our client leadership role. A role where we need our passion to lead creative endeavors. Our ego and tenacity is needed to assemble design teams that will collaborate to create space that is emotive. Wisdom to advise our clients and help them find their vision, their voice. A time to Lead Envision Advise and Design our clients dreams. A time to LEAD
Now it is September 2021 I am retiring and know the next chapter won’t be about creating but about advising.
